Choir Director: Sergio Minervini

Sergio Minervini was born and raised in northern New Jersey, where he began earning a life-long livelihood in music at the age of 15. There then was a westward move to Los Angeles, where he’s resided since. This was followed by further private study in piano, along with conducting and orchestration.

Sergio graduated from UCLA with a B.A., cum laude, in music composition, after which came a break for military service. He returned to UCLA for two years of graduate work, where he was awarded successive teaching assistantships and the Atwater-Kent Prize in historical musicology.

His professional life includes serving as music director for James Darren, Marilyn McCoo, Leslie Uggams and Mary Wilson. In addition, he has conducted pops symphony concerts with the San Francisco Symphony, Atlanta Pops, Dallas Symphony and the Rhode Island Regional Symphony. His background includes recording work at the piano for Mike Post, Bruce Broughton and Larry Cansler; and he has contributed original music or arrangements for Ann-Margret, The Winans, Warner Bros. Publications and The Smothers Brothers. Sergio has also composed music scores for the motion pictures, Shadows Behind Me and Back to One.

Sergio currently serves as choir director at the Spiritworks Center for Spiritual Living, where he also previously held the position of music director for three years. Prior to this he served as choir director for the Baha’is of Los Angeles. Next to these duties, he is occupied with creating original pieces in the fields of contemporary jazz and orchestral music.
