“Opening to Sweetness”

The I AM is that which affirms and understands the meaning of its
affirmation. The I AM that I AM is that which affirms and
understands the meaning of its affirmation so with that in mind let
us say that affirmation together. I am the great opulence of God
made visible in my use right now and continually. So you want to
remind yourself that the highest nature of yourself is the activity
of yourself all the time and that’s why we enter into spiritual
practice so that we can remember all the time what it is that we are
choosing to become. Because we all know the expression and we have
all come into the understanding that we are spiritual beings having
a human experience but however have you sometimes noticed your
humanness is a little too dominate!
So were about something special, something an awareness a shift a
change of consciousness which is a lot more than the continual quest
of going, getting and having yes? Something deeper than the fatigue
created by continually having to go, get and have Now what we find
is in the expression of infinite life that there are things in the
objective world, things that I need to take care of in the world.
You know as the great mystic says after ecstasy the laundry. There
is always that which we need to tend to however as we step more and
more into the awareness of who and what I really am the process of
that awakening becomes the dominate character of my being, the
dominate position of my being.
You know there were a couple of great mystic’s one was brother
Lawrence and the other was Thomas Murtan and he was a catholic monk
who became a Buddhist monk and he was both a Buddhist and Catholic
monk together and when people recognized Brother Lawrence as coming
into a greater light, Brother Lawrence’s job in the brotherhood that
he was in was to do the dishes and when they saw how much light was
coming into Brother Lawrence they wanted to elevate him to Father
Superior and he said no I am happy and I can find God here in the
dishes and the same thing happened to Thomas Murtan. This awakening,
this commingling of awareness of the Buddha consciousness of the
Christ consciousness coming into his soul as one thing and they saw
the light coming from him they saw the intelligence coming and they
said we want to give you another job, you can have any other job
because of your Enlightment but he said no, I am happy with the
dishes.
So you and I now recognize that we are seeking to step into our
awareness of who and what we are as spiritual beings, stepping past
the ironies, past the temporary appearance of separation. Stepping
past that temporary appearance because the only way you will make
that temporary appearance of separation go away is when you step
past it. When you say I AM the way, the light and the truth, I AM
and now look through out time in the Old testament before Abraham
one Abraham announced the one God father mother of all, one God
belonging to all people Abraham announced it and then what came
before the I AM says before Abraham was I AM. Before Abraham ever
announced one God to all people I am the one God of all people of
all life of all creation, your Abraham I AM. Before Abraham was I AM
and then Moses said by what authority shall I free, by what
authority shall I face the Pharaoh, by what authority should I take
this action and the presence says to him the burning bush itself
says to him tell them I AM that I AM. I AM that I AM, the same I AM
that Abraham announced and the Buddha they said who are you, are you
a saint, no are you a sage no, are you a master he says no, he says
what are you Buddha he says I AM, the Buddha says I AM awake. Then
after the Buddha, the way shower the master teacher takes it all
together and he says let us put it all together and step into a new
life a new way of being and he says by what authority shall I do
this, I AM the way the life and the truth. Everyone just claimed
their I AM, the I AM statement, I AM that power that presence now
what if I begin to live from my I AM and I still have my dishes, do
you see that my dishes doesn’t make me less I AM. It does not make
me less spiritual it just is I AM in the dishes. I am in the tasks
of my life. I am in the healing of my life.
In the Chicago tribune this week there was an article about all of
the mega churches and about the challenge the mega churches are
having because the door keeps revolving, meaning the people who are
thirsty and Christ has come in and they hear this message of the
gospel and they receive the message of the gospel and after awhile
they go out again. Why and I don’t like this truth and I am going to
tell you about this truth that I don’t like. Because it says in the
article that most people surveyed about where and when and how they
grew the most spiritually was when they were in the deepest trouble.
Does anyone know what I am taking about? So it appears if we stay in
that modality that we will go along just fine in our objective life
taking care of our tasks until such time that we begin to suffer and
when we begin to suffer deeply something within us will say there is
something more to life than this and we say where is God and that’s
when we seek God. Very often most of us come to God when all else
fails. And then we go along we get our new perception of God our new
awareness of God and we go along until, until what? In other words
if we don’t grow by choice, if we don’t grow by volition, if we
don’t seek to consciously wake up then what will come along as the
story in the human condition is another opportunity in suffering to
bring you deeper into your pains so that you can find God again and
come to a whole new level. You can ask yourself that question and
I’m not going to answer for you because I was thinking of by the
authority invested in me by my name Moses, I was thinking as I was
working on the message for everyone this morning I was thinking was
maybe what I will do is I’ll just sanctify and make a saint out of
Vidal Sassoon. He is the hair dresser to the stars and why would I
want to make a big deal out of Vidal Sassoon because in the
seventies you might remember the advertising campaign for his
products and it was if you don’t look good we don’t look good. Well
we talk about this community spirit works, this idea of one God one
presence, one power in as and through the I AM as the full force of
creation functioning in as and through you and me, we talk about
that as the reality and if that’s the reality, if you don’t look
good, we don’t look good. Do you see it? The bottom line is one of
the reasons I am thrilled with our teaching is because in new
thought there is only one authority. We can mention the
demonstration of the great masters, we can mention the demonstration
of the great way showers and what makes them a master, what makes
them a way shower is there demonstration. Mother Theresa a master
she seemed to have one heavenly demonstration. Was Martin Luther
King a master well he seemed to have shown a way and made a
demonstration. Demonstration is not a metaphysical word it is a
dictionary word and it says to prove by making real. And in our
teaching was Jesus a way shower well look at his demonstration Was
Moses a way shower well look at his demonstration? Where do we get
our authority, it’s not from a book, it’s not from a bible, it’s not
from a subscription although we can find power, and presence and
truth there, but where is the authority in our teaching, it is by
means of a demonstration. So if you don’t look good, we don’t look
good meaning if your life is not becoming richer fuller more alive
and here we come to the title of today’s lesson opening to
sweetness. If your life isn’t becoming sweeter then there is no way
that this community can thrive. If you can’t take what it is that
you know in your spiritual life and bring it forward in your
experience then we need to do a better job. We who are teaching,
leading guiding showing, praying falling coming to our edge, we need
to come further to our edge and when we say who is the “we” that is
the way shower, who is the we who is the way shower. Everyone touch
themselves and say I AM. By what authority do you show the way and
you will see right there in that moment when I asked the question by
what authority do you show the way, the answer is by the authority
of the I AM that I AM because God has already given me that. I AM
that, not just the saints, not just the sages, not just the masters,
I am that and so what I would claim for myself I would claim for all
humanity but somebody has to come to the edge. Somebody has to claim
the great opulence of life, made visible in their lives right now so
that I have the authority by my demonstration to say this is the way
the life and the truth, I am that.
So here is the line from Ernest Holmes we must think of God as the
word, God as the law and then God as the form. It’s all God, God the
absolute, the unconditioned, God the self contemplated mind, God the
essence of infinite knowingness, God the word, God the causation,
God the law the means by which the word becomes manifest God the
affect the condition or the thing experienced it’s all God and I am
that and the only authority we have is when we step into the I AM
that and begin to live from this place of resonance, this place of
vibration Brother Lawrence says. There is not in this life a kind of
life more sweet and delightful than that of a continual walk with
God. There is not in this life a kind of life more sweet and
delightful than that of a continual walk with God. Those only can
comprehend it who practice and experience it. If you don’t look
good, we don’t look good. Because only those who walk it and
practice it and experience it can know of what they are talking. We
are talking about shifting from the hope that there is some secret
that will bring me my stuff to knowing that there is a presence and
a law that responds to the presence by corresponding to the presence
The opulence of the wealth of life made manifest in my life can only
happen in my life when I step into the presence. Because the
presence is the wealth of my life. And so yes we are called to our
edge why yes so that your cup shall runneth over, surely goodness
and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life and I shall dwell
in the house of the lord forever, not as some distant scripture, not
as some far off land but as my experience.
The great metaphysical teacher Roy Eugene Davis who has been
publishing work for the last fifty years and publishes still in a
magazine called the truth journal a wonderful magazine of
inspiration and Roy Eugene Davis I was talking to him fifteen years
ago and in my early days of my ministry I just gave and gave and I
kept showing up and I kept giving and the people were not getting it
and I said what is the matter with me, what’s the matter with my
ministry and I said Roy you are a spiritual genius, your a master
your a teacher what I’m I doing wrong he says you have to see your
people as wealthy. Oh it took me fifteen years for me to get my
glass off of me and put my eyes on you oh! Because none of this has
any meaning unless it helps you in your life, unless your willing to
come to the edge of who and what you are, unless you are willing to
shift from someone who once in awhile uses God to solve their
problems to someone who knows I AM God and that God is the thing
that I thirst for.
I know a soul coming to my mind right now who was having a challenge
with drug addiction, having trouble walking in and out of drug
addiction and it wasn’t until that soul claimed from the depths of
their being and did it consciously I want more God that for the past
two years that life has totally changed, totally changed to a soul
that’s giving and growing and loving and expressing out in the world
free of all of that condition why because they finally got clear
about what it is there thirsting for. I want more God, I am the
opulence of God make visible, I AM God and it is what I’m seeking is
not the opulence of God make visible because that is an effect.
Effect is God but if I don’t have the presence of God then what
difference does it make because it will come and come to pass. The
new cars become old cars; the new stuff becomes old stuff. If it
isn’t about the presence of what your consciousness is bringing to
you in the now moments then we’ve missed the boat. We have missed
the sweetness so yes you and I are asked to come to our edge.
Here is Andrew Cohen publisher of Enlightment magazine the goal of
evolutionary Enlightment and we are interested in Enlightment
becoming more progressed into the world yes? The goal of
evolutionary Enlightment for each individual always to be living on
his or her own edge. That would mean one is endeavoring to live up
to one’s highest level of actual attainment, experience and
understanding. While simultaneously making an effort to stretch
beyond that level to the next one and the next and unless we all as
individuals stay on our own edge we will not continue to develop The
whole idea is constant tangible visible development and if were
actually going to be able to effect culture we have to push to the
edge together. If we actually want to make a difference in the world
were going to have to push to the edge together that’s when
something starts to explode at the level of consciousness itself. A
whole different energy starts working in and through each individual
and the collective which uplifts everyone present and from here we
can continually move into deeper and higher territory.
I will tell you a story and I came from two weeks of minister’s
lockdown. I spent five days from eight to eight with thirty four
ministers a week before Thanksgiving and the idea was that we were
there to grow about continuing education and so there was a lot of
material that was presented and once in awhile they injected some
prayer and it seems to me that they were missing and when I say they
I am that. I worked on my own consciousness so that I didn’t miss it
because what was happening was thirty four people at whatever level
of understanding they were, thirty four people who have dedicated
their lives so much to God that they have gone through the process
to become licensed or ordained ministers and they cared that much
about their spiritual life that they dedicated themselves to become
ministers, thirty four people and I spent five days with them and no
body noticed the wealth in the room. On the fourth day in the
evening a wonderful teacher out of Santa Rosa California says you
know that we are teaching you a lot of tools this week but if we
don’t have the right consciousness it doesn’t matter what the tools
are they wont work. And I thought oh my god there is the whole week
why didn’t we spend our week right there and the answer is because
they are not open to the sweetness, they have dishes to do, you
follow? They are not open to the sweetness the dishes need to be
done however the awakened masters found the sweetness and wanted to
do the dishes oh. Well then the following week as I have been
married for twenty five years and have spent the last twenty five
years spending Thanksgiving because my father in law’s birthday is
Thanksgiving so we had his ninetieth birthday party and the soul
attracted his children, his grandchildren, and attracted his great
grandchildren. There were twenty one people gathered consisting of
four generations and they were all there in the room and I thought
what a spectacular wealth and I bless my in laws and I bless the
family but what did they do for two days they bickered at each
other. They bickered at each other and made a big turkey dinner and
I thought all the while the wealth was in the room and who has the
eyes to see it.
You are gathered here this morning and the people to your left and
to your right are people who are aware that they are spiritual
beings. How sweet it is where ever you are on your spiritual journey
how sweet it is to look at somebody in the eye and really know there
on a spiritual journey and they already know they are on a spiritual
journey, isn’t that wealthy? Do you feel wealthy because of that
well you just stepped into the sweetness? The sweetness is all
around us all the time, the real wealth is around us all of the time
but we have to step into the sweetness, we have to open to the
sweetness and if all that your doing is going getting and having you
wont notice because no sooner do you go and get than you have to go
and get something else and then you have to go and get something
else, that it never goes away the need to go get and to have. So
even if your doing spiritual mind treatment, even if your praying
affirmatively for all the things that your going and getting and
having, you will pray and go and get and have and pray and go and
get and have and there is a good chance you’ll miss the sweetness.
The sweetness of God that is responding to your prayer on every
level, the sweetness of God that is waiting for you to awaken to the
presence, the sweetness of God that says do you see the face of God
looking back at you and while its true that everywhere you look you
see the face of God how often do you get to sit there and know the
one I’m looking at is looking back and seeing that in me, that’s the
wealth, step into the sweetness, open to the sweetness, its not in
the prayer it’s in the pray-er. You are the pray-er, I am that
sweetness.
So in the new era in the new energy as it is happening now your old
strategies of argument of going getting and having harder are
leaving you empty. And I say why even keep looking in that box. Just
let spirit bring you because when you put your attention in the
wealth of the I AM that I am on calling forth the I AM that I AM and
meditating on the I AM that I AM bringing forth the being-ness that
the presence of God loves me as much as it has loved any of its
saints, sages mystics and masters, there is that much love of God to
God in God as God with God as me and here is the sweetness And when
you open to the sweetness, when you let the sweetness come into your
life, wealth will come into your life and you will know it as
unlimited wealth because you will keep your hand open and it will
come in and it will go out but your hand is open and it just keeps
coming in and I don’t need to stop doing dishes just because I Am
enlightened. I just need to do dishes with a little more love; I
just need to do my life with a little more God. I just need to see
God in a little more everywhere I look, I just need to honor the
presence and let it bring its sweetness to me and participate in
that. And anywhere I see the sweetness reveal itself as the success
of the fulfillment of anyone’s goals or dreams or desires that is my
success. And so let us allow this community to radiate in its love
to open to that love, to open its hands to that love that we see
everybody in this community thriving because they chose to be open
to the sweetness. It is the thing that thrills me every time I’m
here as we seem to be finding more and more sweetness. Don’t let the
world come and tell you that your sweetness isn’t true, let your
sweetness tell the world what is true and from that place the
opening of this season of light, the opening of this season of
undivided love belonging to every tradition in every way of life and
every walk of life and every kind of humanity, that was opulence you
can bring into the world because what I know about you is you are
the way the life and the truth and I am thrilled to celebrate that
life with you. Today let us open to the sweetness and I invite you
to think on these things and together let us explore the
possibilities
