Life Beyond Expectations

Our practitioner who did our inspiration today called me and asked for some insight on what is life beyond expectations? So I said let’s look at our definition of forgiveness. Forgiveness is to cancel the demands and expectations that are blocking my attitude of love. Forgiveness is something that always happens with and to me and it involves nobody else. Forgiveness is my cancelling my demands and my expectations that are blocking my attitude of love. So what happens when you live in a world beyond expectations the only thing left is love. And when you look at the story of creation and you look at this season there are many aspects of the Christmas story and there are lots of stories that are active in our lives. Reverend Ann spoke very clearly about the light of the Hanukah candle, the oil’s that kept burning even thought there was no fuel. That there is a light within all of us that cannot be extinguished, that its always there and ours is to begin to put our attention on that light and to allow it to begin to unfold in our lives. Let us make the receptive statement and here we go. I am here by divine appointment. Something I’m about to hear applies to my life. I am open and receptive and willing to explore the possibilities. So we know that their are many seasons and we begin with Hanukah which is the Jewish celebration of the light that would not go out. We are interested in looking beyond anything that separates, beyond religion beyond separation of anything and that light belongs to all people and so that light that wouldn’t go out is a symbol of the light in each and everyone of us that will not go out. Now how brightly will it burn, how much faith can we have in it’s continuing to burn and it depends on how much attention we begin to put on that light. That attention on the light within ourselves, freeing the light within ourselves is how we get that light to radiate in a bigger way. Well you say what do you mean to get it to radiate in a bigger way? By means of your thoughts and attitudes. William James is really considered prior to Freud the founder of American psychology and William James said something very simple he said the greatest discovery of this or any generation is that human beings can alter their experiences by altering their attitudes of mind. The greatest discovery of all time is that human beings can alter their experience by altering their attitudes of mind. So what is the life beyond expectations in other words God birthed you into creation and we say God loves you no matter what. The poet Browning said there is a divine spark within each of us that cannot be desecrated that’s that light that cannot be put out. There is a divine spark within each of us that cannot be desecrated but there is also this divine spark within each of us according to our thoughts and attitudes that can be expanded. According to the way that we are living from the light we have been given the light and then you create the filters through which that light is coming out into the world, according to what, according to your demands and expectations! But there is a power that will free you there is a power greater than you are which is in you that you can use and it can free you according to what according to your thoughts and habits and attitudes. And so that adjusting of habits and thoughts and attitudes is not God’s business that is your business. Because God has given you all the light and what you do with the light is happening through your thoughts and attitudes and what you do with your thoughts and attitudes is your responsibility. And until we get out of the victim game, until we stop blaming life for what happens we will continue to suffer the slings and arrows of the outrageous fortune determined by our own blaming, do you see that? So we have to but we don’t have to but if we want to get out of that bondage the choice is to begin to reframe. To begin to put your attention on that light and to begin to become the avenue through which that light comes into the world. So when God birthed you as the living Christ now we know these words have some juice in them and if I say the star of David that has some juice if I say Christ it has juice, if I say Islam that has juice. If I say Hindu we don’t have so much juice around Hindu but you see all of these different schools of thoughts we have juice around. What I say is can we be liberal enough having nothing to do with red states or blue states can we be liberal enough in our consciousness to say the light of truth belongs to all people and to all traditions and all ways of being. And that light of truth which belongs to all people and all ways of being has been given to all equally with the same amount of love, with the exact same amount of love. Infinite love to the life force within each person and we say well how come I don’t experience infinite love well according to your thoughts and attitudes you might be putting a dimmer on the light of infinite love. Well then how do I release it? We begin with where are all of those expectations that are not being met? Because when god birthed me as the living Christ he said you are birthed as the living Christ that is it. Boom you are the whole thing boom Harry I love you so much you are the whole thing and its sets me free into creation. So I am the whole thing and so I’m set free into creation but God says no matter what you do with the gift of the Christ that I have given you you will still be the Christ no matter what you do. Wow, you mean if I screw up this whole lifetime and don’t reveal the Christ what happens again God loves you so much you can do it again. And the Buddhists call that the wheel of incarnation, you don’t want to grow or you don’t want to live and you just want to have a cycle on the wheel have as many as you like, no problem because the truth is as the great Guru said no one leaves this room until everybody loves everybody but take your time. I love being the room of creation in all the different levels that it could be, in all the different dimensions it can be and nobody gets out of the room till everybody loves everybody but take your time. You want to have a whole lifetime and what to keep all of those expectations and demands you want to block that love because you have expectations and demands that were not met. Not only did you have expectations and demands that were not met and what is the classic question that is so old I say if your god is so good why does he allow these things to happen and the answer is because God gave you freedom and God is not allowing anything to happen, you are. You say well why does God allow that to happen well in order for that not to happen God would have to take away freedom. And if you did not have freedom you would not have been given the gift of the Christ. You see you have the gift of the Christ the Atman the Buddha the high self that’s been given and not even God can take it away. Because it would be not in God’s nature to do something that God isn’t. God is freedom so taking away freedom is not in God’s book. So this thing that’s birthed in me, this life beyond expectations is going to have to be me giving up the expectations that anybody will be anything different than they actually are. Well how does that look like in the real world? This is the one phrase solution love them anyway. No matter what they do or don’t do I will love you anyway. And that becomes a work in my consciousness that my being able to hold you in the light of truth regardless of what you do is my work, do you see that? That’s me and you say well you’re making me work hard to be like God ok. Does anybody in your life make it hard for you to be like God? But just love them anyway because sooner or later love wins because love is the victor, love is the champion love is what is and sooner or later love wins. Well some people are in such hell that they make it really hard for you to be like God so as your job literally it is your job to love the hell out of them. What I can tell you for sure by means of experience is that it works. I have seen it work over twenty years of practice and I have seen it work time and time again. In have letters in my file that says I was the biggest enemy on the planet, I was the force in their life against God and two years later because I love them anyway I get letters that say you have changed my life, your willing to hold me in that space transformed who I am, I saw something. So it doesn’t matter whether they love you back that is not your business. My business is to be the light of Christ; my business is to be the place of compassion on this planet. My business is to wake up to God as I know God; my business is to come back to God when I go away from God because God has never gone away from me. Well what does that mean and it means that you’re going to have to put your expectations aside and you don’t have to its only if it’s what you want. It is according to your own desires that you have to and if your desires say I have come to have life and to have it more abundantly and that’s what I intend to do. In the prophet by Gibran he speaks to the high self the christed self of the self and there is a dialogue going on with the high self and the personal self and the personal self keeps asking the high self tell me about love. Tell me about death, tell me about marriage tell me about my children and yesterday I had the wonderful experience to christen which doesn’t matter which tradition it is simply to name the baby God, it is simply to say this child came from the light he belongs to the light and we see this child as life as the light of God and were just going to acknowledge this in the world. Sometimes they call it christening and sometimes its called baby naming it depends on the heritage and what the families all need in order to allow this simple ceremony to take place. So yesterday I had the opportunity to do this to my nephew’s son, this was my oldest brothers second son born four or five years before I even had children so this child and I have had a relationship since the moment he was born. Now here I am doing this beautiful thing in the family with the family and for the family. But not all the family came but whether they came or don’t come it’s not a condition of my love. All I wanted was for my children to see and for my nephews to see and for those who chose to be there to see that this experience is the only thing real in life. And somehow I knew way back when I was young I knew the only thing real in life is when we can really say I love you to one another. Think about it the only thing really precious you have in your life is the places where you have been able to say with all your heart and all your soul and all your simplicity “I love you”. That is your wealth, that is your real wealth and from there all other wealth comes, from the simplicity of being able to say I love you. From the simplicity of being able to say I see you as the living Christ and there is nothing you can ever do that will cause me not to see you. Because I’m born in the image of God and God sees you as that and that’s good enough for me. That’s all the evidence that I need, God see’s you as that and if God sees you as that it is my job and my obligation to see you as that. But I have all of these demands and expectations they just don’t behave the way I want them to behave? I know it’s only in my life but people just don’t behave the way the way I like them to behave, they just don’t seem to see what is fundamentally important the way I see what is so fundamentally important. They don’t seem to be able to dwell in the beauty and the simplicity of this simple reality of love. So what do we tend to do “well then never mind” forget it I’ll do it my own way and I’ll just retreat further back into myself, I will pull my energy back into myself and then I will wonder what is everybody saying. What is this joy of life, what is this hark the Harold angels sing? What are they talking about because you have pulled yourself back by having so many demands and so many expectations that you have lost track of what is real. And what I know I told my wife last night and a commercial was on and I was seeing God as a Chevrolet and my eyes are weeping and I said I think I’m loosing it I am seeing God in the Chevrolet and I don’t know why but why what happened was the reality of hanging out in that simple love opened my heart so that everything was in view and in the reality of the simple love. No really the babies came from God and were acknowledging the baby belongs to God and you came from God and we are acknowledging that you came from God. When you start hanging our there and you start realizing wow this life within me that no matter what I do with it it’s not going to go out and it’s going to be the only thing at the end of the game, the only thing that’s going to matter to you at all is this light within you and I promise you that. You may not see it now but you will see that the only thing that matters is this light within you and the only thing that matters to this light within you is that it can emerge with other light and see the other light and can see yourself as who you really are and that is what makes me alive. When I see the baby as who it really is and call it that and ask everybody to see the baby as what it really is and call it that wow we get so high and we don’t need anything else. I was just so filled with this three month old baby this is the baby Christ this is the Buddha awakening and we said to this baby we are so glad your here we have been awaiting your arrival. Let me change that I’m not talking about the baby I’m talking about you. I am so glad that your here and I have been waiting for you. Touch yourself and say I AM I’m talking to you I’m so glad your here I’ve been waiting your arrival. There is a life we can live together it is the life beyond expectations. It is simple the life of seeing each other as we actually are and if we see each other as what we actually are the only thing left is love. And when you hang out in love it will lead to what Joseph Campbell the great mythologist said when Bill Moyer asked him then what the human challenge is and Joseph Campbell said the most difficult human challenge is to tolerate your bliss. The pathway to getting a higher tolerance for your bliss is to live in love. To live in love might require that you cancel the expectations and see through the mist into the eternal reality and see in your family and in your friends and in that baby and your willing to see it in the baby and you need to be wiling to see it here because that soul is that same baby. It’s the same light in the world, this month this holiday so let us put our attention on the light and let each one of us decide to make a decision to live beyond expectations and simple be the light of love.
