"The Heart of the Matter"

I want you to really get in touch with loving what
you are. You are a being of God expressing as you. Say I love what I
am. Because that is really what today is all about. There is a
principal which I find is so fascinating Dr. Ernest Holmes and this
is from his book Keys to Wisdom. The principal that we teach, the
principle that we are centered in is the principal called love and
law. And what we see is the entire enfoldment of the bible both the
old and new testament together really is an announcement of that
principal. I want to share this quote from the little book the keys
to wisdom. The bible from beginning to end viewed as a whole
teaching repeats in one way or another the law of cause and effect.
Its starts with the premise that the universe is a spiritual system.
That man is included in that spiritual system, which the infinite
creates by the power of its word or the contemplation of its
consciousness and as a complement to this man, reproduces this
creativity in his individual life. So the entire bible is about
announcing the principle of love and law and what you see even the
master teacher Jesus when he came into expression and began to
express his ministry he said and I have said over and over again
Jesus was a Jew. Historically absolutely there is no doubt about it
and Jesus was a practicing Jew. He was well versed in the law of the
testament and the understandings of the Torah and through that
devotion something within him ignited In the Old Testament it says
that God had the chosen people meaning the Jews were the chosen
people and if we look more deeply to the symbolism of that, what we
know is an Israelite is a Jew. An Israelite if we look at the
metaphor is one who wrestles with God. An Israelite translated
metaphorically is one who wrestles with God. Now if your going to
wrestle with God it means that you do not wrestle with the world.
That all of my work is on the inside because I’m born in the image
and likeness of God and if my life is not expressing a divinity the
way I would like it to express because is there anyone who could
express the divinity the way you would like it expressed better than
you? No, you’re the only one because you’re the only one who knows
what that divinity would be like for you. What that joy of living
would be like for you, what that participation in your own beingness
as glory would be like for you. Because every one of us is different
and every one of us would have a different vision and version of
what that glory would be. So here is the interesting thing I am a
skier and I have had to look at all the press material and make sure
that it says what I want it to say and in all of it it says after he
recovered from his disease he is now an avid skier and sportsman.
And I got the opportunity to ski a few weeks ago and I was reminded
how much I enjoy that. The reason that I think that it highly
relevant is as a metaphor is that when you ski you can have the best
teachers there are, you can know all of the principals about skiing,
you can know everything there is to know about skiing and if I go up
to the top of the mountain with you, I cannot turn your ski’s for
you. No matter what I do or how good I am or how good a teacher I am
when it comes to the top of the mountain and you have to move, you
have to turn you have to turn on your own ski’s. No body can turn on
your skis for you and that’s the way it is in our lives. No matter
what we learn, no matter how good the teachers are no matter what we
have been told when it comes down to engaging to making the meta
physical, to making the invisible side of life, practical and real
you are the only person who can do that in your life. No matter how
great the teachers, no matter what you have been exposed to, you are
the only person who can do that. So when we look then what is this
message of the religious attitude out of the West and that is what
we talk about when we talk about the testament. The testaments old
and new are a reflection or a capturing of a religious attitude out
of the West and just as we would look at say the teachings of Lau
Sue, the teachings of Confucius, the Bhagavad-Gita and we look at
the Upanishads all of the materials are representatives of the
divine teachings of the East and we see the East and the West the
Buddhist heart the compassion heart mixing with the Christed heart
which is the loving heart and what we found Jesus announced was as a
Jew he said I did not come to deny the law I can to fulfill the law.
And so lets simplify the law not the law Koran, not the law of the
new testament, not the law of the old testament, not the law of any
scriptures because what makes a scripture sacred? What makes a
scripture sacred and here is the Ernest Holmes book and I think it’s
sacred and what makes it sacred is my belief in it. Do you see that
well people say the bible is sacred then and yes absolutely Someone
says the Koran is sacred you say absolutely. The Upanishads are
sacred and you say absolutely to the one who claims it is sacred it
is sacred. But what I say is what is true is what is true is not in
a book. What is true lives within you and its only as you begin to
work it that you can see.
So when he said he came to fulfill the law, what law so this is the
deal. There is a law of cause and effect, there is a law of Karma,
we all have learned about that and we understand that. Now we go a
little further because some entities called Abraham coming through a
person are claiming to represent information from other dimensions
and they say its not about a law its about a vibration. It’s about
whatever it is that your vibrating at that’s coming back to you,
that’s attracting or repelling. Its the same law do you see it
whether you call it a law of vibration or whether you called it the
law of karma, whether you call it the law of mind whether you called
it the laws of cause and effect whether you call it the law of
attraction whether you call it the law of reciprocal action it is
all the same law. One law which is receives the sum total of my
consciousness and reflecting it back to me. And we say that is hard
because if you have looked into your life is anybody has anything in
their life that has happened that they don’t like? Because when you
say there is a law what that means is that whatever you are putting
out your getting back. And the law is perfect it’s elegant it
doesn’t miss a beat. Its reflection the sum total of your experience
back to you exactly as it is, exactly as it is. Well sometimes I
have faith and sometimes I have fear, sometimes I have love
sometimes I have hate, sometimes I care a lot sometimes I don’t care
at all. And it takes that total mix and reflects it back in your
life. And you see all of those qualities of your own self coming
back to you all of the time and so we say what would be the elegant
way to operate this law and this is why Jesus said he came to
fulfill the law not to deny it. Because Jesus was a way shower of
the way of love and he reminded us that love was the most powerful
facility. It was the most powerful gift that the gift of love was
given from the divine to you in its purity, one hundred percent pure
love you are born out of spirits one hundred percent pure love for
you. Notice that your consciousness takes whatever you give it in
love and has now mixed it with the sum total of your awareness.
Everything you think say feel and do is now reflected and that does
not match pure love, it that true? You can see that because you have
said I have something’s in my life I didn’t mean to create. If it
was pure love the reflection of pure love would be pure love, the
perfection of pure joy would be pure joy, the reflection of perfect
harmony would be perfect harmony but you see there is something
interrupting that perfect idea and it’s what we have come to
believe. It’s the belief systems the structure of knowing that we
have created that no longer allows that perfection to flow through
us and mirror itself as perfection its mirror’s itself instead with
the stuff that we fill it with. The sum total of everything I think
say feel and do creates my belief system and that creates what life
is responding to me, from me all of the time.
So now here that song says I’m getting down to the heart of the
matter and I’m thinking it’s about forgiveness even if you don’t
love me anymore.
I have been teaching forgiveness for a long time and I constantly
bring us back to forgiveness and I know that forgiveness is really
hard to market. It is really hard to do bells and whistles the great
Tony Robbins forgiveness experience. Forgiveness no I don’t want to
forgive I have no body to forgive oh I don’t want to actually look
at what might be in my law that causes it not to reflect the purity
of divine love in my life. If were really talking about forgiveness
means we are getting down to the heart of the matter and I’m going
to look within me and se what’s there. Yet if we believe and if you
notice any moment in your life and now open your heart open your
mind to receive from your own high self and allow a moment to come
into your life where things were just right, where it was really
beautiful. Just allow it to come in and can you feel your own
beautiful moment coming in and now I know that in that moment there
was love yes? Always any moment you remember as being beautiful it
is filled with love, always and so we say Oh I remember what love
is, I know what it is to be present in love, I have had the
experience but then we go away why because somebody did not meet our
expectations.
And so here is the definition of forgiveness that I use and it is
powerful. I am getting down to the heart of the matter and I’m
thinking it’s about forgiveness because forgiveness is to cancel the
demands and expectations
Now feel the good vibe in the room as you thought of your beautiful
moment now watch how fast the vibe will shift if you think of
somebody who you are angry at.
Now when you look why are you angry at them you immediately see
because they didn’t because I would rather they did. Whatever that
demand or expectation is you are angry at them because they did not
meet that expectation yes? Do you see that because they are not
meeting your expectation your anger is a withhold of your love. Can
you see that? But you have a secret supply source to withhold that
love and that is that little part of you that says you are right. In
other words I would extend my love except I am so right about this
so we make a decision Now most people unconsciously and most people
do it for twenty or thirty years at a time, we make a decision to
withhold our love based on that expectation not being met. Now I
again remind you you are born in the image and likeness of God and
if we would say why does God create anything, why would God create
the cosmos? Why would God do that, why would this perfect infinite
intelligence that has the potential to be all things create all
things, to expand itself but why I ask the question? God creates
because God loves who it is so God creates the entire cosmos out of
its love for itself and you’re born in the image and likeness of
that which creates the entire cosmos out of its love for itself.
Which means God created me magnificent glorified me in the image and
likeness of God this is who I am really and I may not be in touch
with the heart of the matter and therefore I can stray this
glorified me. Because my little self that wants to be right its
loves the thrill of its rightness.
So I will change metaphors from skiing to sailing. In sailing the
keel pushes this way on the water and the wind pushes this way and
that is what causes it to go forward and so a sailboat is designed
to sail in a position called just off luft which means with the
sails as far as they can go without flopping in the wind. Why
because the more wind that the sails hold the more of that leverage
there is and the faster the boat goes through the water.
So what happens when you pull the sail in against the wind the boat
keels over further and when this happens the water starts coming up
the rails and you get the boat over sometimes the water will splash
on the sails but the boat is designed to sail with the sail out so
when you let that sail out the boat comes up and sails faster and
smoother. So that illusion that when we tighten the sails then were
really sailing and it’s just like we are with our little ego and our
withholding love. I’m withholding love because they don’t love me
the way that I want and I am really sailing the boat now going
slower and harder until you finally go I’m so tired of this boat
rocking like this all of the time Do you see it? We get attached to
that entire struggle, all of that constriction, all of that
excitement out of our rage and angers and disappointments and
heartbreaks and failures and all of that stuff.
So I have a question do you want to be right or do you want to be
happy? Because your born in the image and likeness of God and God is
love and the more you return to love the happier you will be.
Because the only reason you exist is because God loves you. God
knows how magnificent you are, god birthed you so you could bring
forth great benefits to God oh well when your in the human body the
way to bring forth a benefit to God is to bring great benefit to one
another. Which means I have to be an instrument of love and in that
song I love the lyric of that song because Don Henley wrote that
song that all the things that I had thought I had figured out I have
to learn again.
When you fall in love you love to love and then all of a sudden she
always and he always and he never and why don’t you and if you only
would and it goes on and on and then we start to withhold love and
we go back and have to learn all over again that all the things that
we put between us separate us and cause us to loose track of our
love. Because love never dies, love never dies, love changes form.
One of my ex girlfriends is writing a book but she was not in touch
with me for thirty years and thirty years ago she broke my heart.
She called me up recently to ask me some questions about how it was
thirty years ago and I heard her ask me these questions and she did
not even know she broke my heart. She did not know and all of that
stuff was coming from me, and I have to learn all over again the
things I put between us. My friends scatter but I never stopped
loving her and I don’t mean I wasn’t really involved in that kind of
love but I released her and I released her to her highest good and I
want nothing but the best for her and thirty years later she calls
me back. What do I want for her thirty years later the same thing
the highest and the best for her. She is married with kids I have
kids and that was long ago and that’s all gone but all of those
demands and expectations and all the reasons I withheld love she was
oblivious and it all happened in me.
You see it is always happening in ourselves, my friend seems to
scatter why because we have all of these demands and expectations
and so we don’t love anymore Anyone have friends for more than ten
years, twenty years thirty years have you noticed that you love for
them doesn’t die it changes form and why did they scatter because
you withheld your love, that’s the only reason your friends
scattered is you withheld your love. They did not meet your demands
and expectations so you withheld love and they disappeared because
love knows itself and love calls forth itself and love attracts
itself and love is the impulsion of the universe, it’s the reason
for all things.
Oh I don’t want to talk about forgiveness they hurt my pride, they
hurt me and you keep caring that anger until it eats up inside and
life goes on anyway
So I am getting down to the heart of the matter but my will gets
weak because I know the heart of the matter is I have to return to
love and my returning to love is something that I do within me its
not something that involves them at all, not even thirty years
later. So forgiveness is something I do with and for myself.
I’m getting down to the heart of the matter and your will gets weak
and your heart gets sadder because I would rather be right. I would
rather be right I would rather be angry I would rather be in my
withhold than to actually be happy Because the universe is asking
you all the time what is it that your seeking oh I am seeking the
grass on the other side, why am I always seeking the grass on the
other side when the grass is inside? The green green grass at home
in inside it is only when you start to realize I am creating my life
not sometimes but all the time and do we not notice when your giving
into your fears? Do you not notice when you’re giving into your
hates and angers and upsetness, do you not notice or you do notice?
Ok Dr. Holmes give me the magic, come on Michael Beckwith give me
the magic come on somebody outside of myself give me the magic and
when it comes right to it nobody can turn on your skis’ but you.
Nobody can make that decision but you and so we decide do we want to
constrict or do we want to be happy. I am involved in this new
energy awakening a transformation of human kind where were really
believing that the whole potential of being a light worker in the
world is living in me. But the problem is if you’re going to be a
light worker in the world then you need to be with other lights. Oh
Sunday morning comes around and I have to give up my sports and my
lounging around and “yes” that is all true. You might decide if you
want to stay in your constriction or you want to use the light to
unlock everything and eventually your heart becomes the immaculate
heart, becomes the awakened Buddha, becomes the Christ the Buddha
the Atman the high self I am that in the world and I am beginning to
notice that what I am attracting is something is something I am
doing all the time because what I am attracting is what I am
emanating. Let me say that again what I’m attracting is what I’m
emanating and so what are you emanating today and are you willing to
get down to the heart of the matter and cancel the demands and
expectations that are blocking your attitude of love. Even if even
if you don’t love me anymore. Do you see how much I love has nothing
to do with what you do or do not do with your love? I’m getting down
to the heart of the matter and I’m thinking it’s about forgiveness.
I want to close on this subject and this just came clear to me this
year in all of the metaphysical studying I have done over the years
it was this year at looking at our Easter that I saw the story about
Jesus’ return to the upper room You remember Monday Thursday was the
last supper that went into Good Friday and we know Easter story and
this is Monday. He has already appeared to Mary Magdalene he has
already appeared to the disciples on the road to Damascus. He has
already appeared in many different places but he goes back to the
upper room the door was locked. He walks into the room and there are
all the disciples and Thomas the doubting Thomas said I don’t
believe it is him and Jesus said no go ahead and put your fingers in
the wound and at the moment he put his fingers in the wounds he
believed, he believed not only in the awakened presence of Jesus but
he believed the entire gospel of Jesus. He believed the message of
Jesus and the message of Jesus was the fulfillment of the law not
the denial of the law. And the law can be simply described as the
law of “as”. As you give so shall you receive, all you love so shall
you be loved. As you participate in joy so shall you have joy? As
you participate in music so shall you have music, as the law of as?
And so Jesus comes back to the room and all of a sudden the holy
spirit came upon them the whole place is filled with light and there
is an activity of cosmic awareness and Jesus says back to the same
group, his main disciples and he has told this lessons thousands of
times and he says I am telling you as you forgive so shall you be
forgiven. He came back and announced the most important lesson “as
you forgive”. Now I am willing to explore it at every level but I
believe that when you talk about the way the life and the truth that
the way is forgiveness. It is the way because as you return to love
you recreate yourself in the image of the divine. And that’s what
you already are you become one with your at oneness. You become
atoned to your atonement. You become atoned to the very self of
yourself.
So were getting down to the heart of the matter and whether you love
me back or whether you don’t love me back I will love you. I will
love you whether you’re on my side or not on my side I will love
you. I will love you whether you’re for Obama or McCain, I will love
you. I don’t care what you do or do not do because I’m on my skis
and my skis say in order for me to live the life divine I must
choose to be a conscious player in the game of love. It’s the
highest most powerful vibration there is and you are a way shower
there. So My friends let your light shine, do the forgiveness work,
get down to the heart of the matter and realize that it’s about
loving all of the time even if you don’t love me anymore. I am the
way, I am the light, and I am the truth and I am divine love. I
invite you to use this energy to create miracles in your life this
week so that you can walk back into this sanctuary filled with the
joy of knowing when you rise to be a light worker in deed you bring
a lot more light into the world. My friends it is my honor and
privilege to share with you this morning and I invite you to think
on these things and together let us explore the possibilities.
