"Four Steps to Greatness"

One of the things that I do when I arrive here on
Sunday mornings I do it now and as soon as I get here I grab
everybody I can and we start praying and we pray downstairs and in
the sanctuary and a lot of prayer going around because what we know
from the great metaphysician Dr. Holmes he reminded us in his
writing that all things have a thought atmosphere. Everything is
vibrating with a particular atmosphere, so every building has a
thought atmosphere, every town has a thought atmosphere, every home
has a thought atmosphere, wherever two or more are gathered there is
what the Aramaic language which was the language that Jesus spoke,
in the Aramaic language it is called the pagra which is the energy
of a group. So when we really start to look that we see wherever two
or more are gathered the energy of a group is formed and that
creates a vibration and that vibration stays in the building, in the
place, and everything in motion tends to stay in motion and we know
the law of motion stays until it has another force. So what we find
is we don’t want to contradict all the good energy that has moved
forward but we also want to expand. So in new thought the way that
we fix the old is by recording the new, that’s really the difference
in our principals between psychology and new thought, the model of
mind is very similar, sub consciousness mind and effect but what we
say is the way to change what’s operating your life what is
happening in your sub conscious mind the way to change what’s
operating in your life is to have a new thought. Indeed it was Dr.
Holmes who reminded us that new thoughts create new conditions and
you have heard me repeat many times and it is ok to repeat things
many times because the mind acquires habits by repletion of thought.
The mind acquires a habit by repetition of thought and so the way of
talking about new thought is if you continue to do what you have
always done you will continue to get what you always got. The way
that I wrote about it in my book is its so easy when you know how is
the consciousness that got you where you are will not get you where
you want to go. And so we are at a place now where we are willing to
create a new, if we are willing we will have an opportunity to
create anew. Remember we have been talking about too much luggage.
Don’t try to take all of your stuff with you through the eye of the
needle because what were seeking is to come into the kingdom, the
eye of the needle is simply a symbol of coming into the kingdom and
the kingdom is simple a place where everything is the way that you
mean it. Let me say that again, the kingdom is simple the place
where everything is the way you mean it. So you can look at the word
great and there is book the former CEO of GE wrote called from good
to great and wonderful corporate ideas but he is talking about an
external great. A great that we measure in the world but the great
of the self can only be measured from inside the self Because only
you know what is really great to you, only you know when you hit the
mark and it’s what you mean. Only you really know that and one of
the glorious things that I mentioned to you yesterday was I did
perform this memorial yesterday and this was with the community that
worked with me and we were together for many years and what we
constantly remind ourselves and what the face of death is in
everyone of our lives and its there to remind us to show us, to give
us the opportunity to see through the mist into the eternal and
changeless reality and the way that Dr. Holmes dedicated all the
lessons that he wrote and these lessons are dedicated to that truth
that frees man from himself and sets him on a path to see through
the mist into the eternal and changeless reality. And so you and I
are in the process were in the work of seeing through the mist and
you might have noticed there is some fog. So we have to purpose
ourselves to see clearly, we have to purpose ourselves to see
through the mist and the reason that I mentioned those prayers this
morning is because in our prayer this morning the word puppyness
came up, well why because my house is filled with the thought
atmosphere of puppyness at the moment. I have a nine week old golden
retriever and he just thinks everything in the universe is designed
for him to chew and then they also do what puppies do after they
chew. So you constantly have to stand porter to the door of puppy
and at the same time every time you want to react in an old idea of
energy you look at this puppy and he just overwhelms you with his
cuteness factor. Because to the puppy everything is a fresh
creation, its bran new that blade of grass, that thing that fell out
of the tree, that sock whatever it is it is a brand new experience
for the puppy and the experience itself in joy in a brand new
experience They just experience themselves in joy in a brand new
experience. Well that is what we are talking about today and does
everyone have a card? So today’s lesson is entitled four steps to
greatness and when I say I bypass the bureaucracy we are involved in
our seventh week of our first year class. We are getting some
wonderful transformation and transformation happens according to the
law of as. The deeper you purpose yourself towards your own
transformation the further you will go. So the more you invest
energy in the more you get energy out. So the first year students
are investing energy in and it is exciting to watch that energy
expand and expansion of consciousness and one of the primary tool
that in the Holmes version of new thought remember there are two
major schools of new thought that have anchored themselves in
organizations on the planet but there are many independent ones but
there are two major organizations one of them is religious science
now called the centers for spiritual living and the other one is
called Unity, Unity school of Christianity. So they come from
Charles and Myrtle Filmore and Ernest Holmes wrote the backbone for
the organization that we are part of. It really does not matter
which school of New Thought that you come from because what we are
interested in is what truth is. People say well you only quote the
parts of the bible that serve you and I say Amen to that or anything
else that I read I will take the parts that will serve me. So let me
bring forth a quote that we shared last week. This you will gladly
recognize in the holy instant in which you will willingly and gladly
give over every plan but his. This you will gladly recognize in the
holy instant in which you willingly and gladly give over every plan
but his, meaning his in this case being a masculine representation
of the principal of the divine. That we would give away every plan
but that which the divine would have for us and let me remind you
what is ultimately the plan the divine has for each and every one of
us and has for each and every aspect of humanity, every
individualizing of humanity he said it shall know itself. It shall
know itself as born in the image and likeness of God that it will
know itself as the resurrected Christ, the Atman the Buddha the high
self by any other name that we will know ourselves as the glory of
God, that’s the divine plan that you would know who and what you
really are and therefore you would be willing to release everything
that causes you to be afraid, everything that causes you to be
diminished in anyway from that which would be the glory of the most
high. And so we have come into life in order to have the experience
of releasing everything from our lives that would detract from our
glory. We are talking about allowing the holy instant to come upon
us, to step through the eye of the needle and to know that as I step
through I step through with just God and me. It was God and me and
we decided to step through into a whole new possibility and I had
nothing with me, I had nothing except the presence with me. From
that moment we begin to create in fresh creation in new creation we
have the opportunity to open up to the glory of the most high, and
therefore have the greatness in our lives, have the greatness in our
lives that reflects the greatness the way great means to me, not to
the world, but to me. And each one of us is defining what is great
each one of us is experiencing what is great and you may like me
discovered that some of the things that you have been co-creating by
means of the choices you have made in life are not what you mean as
great. But then we say but oh God I have always done it this way and
that is why we are saying no, leave the entire luggage behind you
and come into a new moment and what would you create in a holy
instant? Now this is coming from the course in miracles, this quote
that I am reading and it goes on in the reading and it is one way in
which we can describe the process of ascension or the process of
expansion that my consciousness holds more. And you don’t have to
hold it in your mind once it is in your consciousness, once you
decide you are one with the one, once you decide you are cracking
the cosmic egg of your own soul and allowing yourself to come forth
into creation the limit to how far you expand is limitless As you
are watching having nothing to do with what candidate you are
choosing as you are watching the political debate you see this idea
has come up in the last weeks around words, but it is only words but
words when they are infused with consciousness are an unstoppable
force.
Victor Hugo had the great line no army can withstand the power of an
idea whose time has come, nothing can withstand the power of an idea
whose time has come. Nothing can withstand the power of your
consciousness expanding coming together to actually realize that
through the eye of the needle and recognize God and I together are a
majority. God and I together create the world as I recognize that
the consciousness of God is coming to me and through me as I allow
myself to be that. Most of us are a little nervous about allowing
ourselves to be like God and yet again we can look at the writings
of Dr. Holmes who said it very clearly. The one with the most power
is the one who’s the most God like. The more I allow myself to claim
that I am God, the more I allow myself to not step away from that,
excuse me I did not mean to blaspheme anybody but who are you not to
be great. Who are you not to be the glory of God, who are you not to
receive the gift of your immaculate life that’s already given unto
you waiting for you to rise up. So the master teacher says back
through this writing in the course of miracle the teacher says I
stand with the holy instant. The presence of the Christ stands with
the holy instant and as clear as you would have me I stand with the
holy instant as, there is that word, as clear as you would have me.
Remember the story I was telling you all around Easter and its March
and we are coming into Easter consciousness and the story I told you
around the disciples in the upper room when Jesus appeared and they
said we don’t believe you, the doubting Thomas said I don’t believe
you and Jesus said go ahead and stick your hands in the wounds and
he sticks his hand in the wound and he say oh my God it really is
you. And at that moment he believed and at the moment he believed
the Holy Spirit the knowingness came upon them and they were
transformed from disciples to apostles. Simply a symbolic expansion
of consciousness, a symbolic rising up they rose up at the moment
they could accept, at the moment they could believe so you and I
have the opportunity to believe.
I will pause here for a moment here is the Reverend Ann in the front
row and Ann is the Christ and so turn to each other and greet each
other as the Christ. Just say I greet the Christ in you and now feel
into the space just as in our meditation, what happens when you
really see the exalted one in somebody, when you really see the
exalted one in somebody? When you have the courage to see the
exalted one in somebody you draw it out of them, do you see it? We
draw it out of one another as we are willing to accept, you mean the
full idea of God in me, as me through me is waiting for me to let it
come out, waiting for me to accept and what moment will it come
through. I stand with you in the holy instant ready as you are
willing to accept. Always you are the one measuring it out and so we
enter into our prayers and into our meditations in order to expand
it and to let it out. So this is what were interested in to make
room for this presence which is with us and to the extent that you
would learn to accept me, this is now the presence we are talking
about, the full orbed realization of me with God. To actually be
able to say I am and you notice we have done this before when you
say I am, no problem nothing to argue with but now be brave and you
are watching your own mentality, your the one measuring it out,
checking it out in yourself and now touch your holy heart of hearts
and say I am God and there are two possible courses in the mind. One
for me it almost makes me breathless, the magnificence and what God
has given as me, and to really accept that it makes you breathless
and the other possible path which may happen to you is oh oh “what
does he mean by that”. We start to become afraid of the greatness
within ourselves. And this is not a judgment it is just a noticing,
my mind is attracted to this idea of my holy self, of my exalted
self, of my Atman self, of my Nashama self but part of me is still
no, and that’s ok just see where you are that what were seeking is
to invite that holy presence, the holy presence of the I am that I
am were seeking to invite it in and to invite it to express through
our being. And to the extent that you learn to accept me is the
measure of time that the holy instant will be yours. To the extent
that you learn to accept me is the measure, not time, I call you to
make the holy instant yours at once for the reach from littleness in
the mind of the host of God depends on willingness and not on time.
For me to step into my greatness is all happening with me the
willingness of me as the host of God. If God is going to be revealed
in me and as me do you see that I am the host of God? Then how much
of God will come through me, how much of the Christ, the Atman, the
Buddha the high self, the full orbed realization of myself as one
with the one. How much of that will come through me is going to
depend on my willingness, not on time hence we find the great
teaching from Dr. Holmes who says daily we should meditate on the
glory of God. If I didn’t know about meditating on the glory of God
I never would have made it to fifty wonderful, no way. And there
were times in my life where I relied purely on my ability to
meditate on the glory of God because nothing else looked like it.
But if you will hold there, if you will hold your willingness in the
holy instant and greatness meaning the way you mean it, meaning
that’s what I’m talking about.
You know that feeling when it comes out and you go “oh that’s what
I’m talking about” and that is what happened yesterday in the
memorial service because all these souls had been working, daily we
should meditate, daily we should think about, daily we should turn
your attention. Yogananda’s great line read a little, meditate more
and think about God all of the time Paramahansa Yogananda. The more
we think about God the more our consciousness expands so these souls
willing to celebrate eternal life willing to have a celebration of
life, in the memorial, willing to call forth the dimensions of life
to be present in the memorial and in that memorial you could feel
not only those of us in the room but you could also feel Wilma and
you could also feel the presence of the host of heaven with her and
we were all together in the one room. Because the universe is not
divided in anyway from itself, it’s only as we are willing to open
up.
So here is what we are talking about making my life puppy love
creation, joyous creation that ok its a brand new day, its a brand
new moment, it is a brand new opportunity what will you create now
in this day and what are the four steps to that greatness If you
come to class I hope that you get it, if you come Sunday’s I hope
you get it, if you come to meditation I hope you get it. I hope that
you get it when you stand next to the ocean; I hope that you have
more than just a little bit of faith, I hope you get it. That is
what my wish is for everybody I hope you get it; I hope I get it in
a bigger and more powerful way because I am in the process of
ascending I don’t know about the rest of you? But by means of your
presence here I know you are in the process of ascending. But how
fast, according to your willingness. So here is what Ernest Holmes’s
reminded us and this is the core principal for you and me which is
that spiritual mind treatment which is simple affirmative prayer is
the key to moving yourself forward. Because if you don’t think a new
thought what do you think will happen, you will continue to do what
you have always done, same old thing. I literally have to find new
thought if I want change and joyous creation, I will have to find
some new ideas. So let’s look at these four steps. So we are looking
at 1 2 3 4 and you can use this card and put it wherever you want
and work it, because this stuff works if you work it.
The first thing is recognition, what do we recognize?
In prayer we recognize all are one, we recognize God; we recognize
God is all love and how do you identify God? God is the infinite
cosmos and we talked about how many galaxies they just found, forty
thousand plus galaxies, and we are not talking solar systems, we are
talking galaxies and that is just what we can see. So you can’t
describe God because anyway that you would try to describe God and
in the Jewish tradition you could not use the word God because if
you used the word God whatever you meant by God God is more than
that that was the idea of that. Don’t use that word because however
you are describing God, God isn’t that? But we want to get ourselves
to describe God as everything, as the allness of the universe. The
way that we can describe God is by calling forth the qualities of
God. I know God is love, I know God is joy, I know God is wisdom, I
know God is puppy-ness, I know God is beauty, I know God is light, I
know God is joy. Am I limiting God by describing any of those
qualities of God, no but I am just identifying some of the qualities
of God. So the first thing in our step to greatness is to recognize
the greatness of the cosmos that you’re in. And it is to recognize
that it’s the only thing there is. So one is greatness. If you do
step one can you do it in truth? In you do step one can you do it in
trust, meaning can I name God as love, joy, peace, freedom,
happiness, bliss, puppy ness and do it in joy? Can I do it in trust,
can I do it in truth, can I do it passionately, can I passionately
know and have fun with God is all there is? Yes can I do it with
clarity, can I communicate about that, do you see how you can take
all of those words and test them against your one, do you see?
Meaning if you want to feel good about the four steps to greatness,
how many people want greatness in their life? Now when we say
greatness are we talking about some external greatness or greatness
only by means of your own definition of greatness? Only by means of
your own definition, see it? So how many people want greatness in
their life, say I am, say I am greatness, and now check the
resonance because there is power in doing it together. So the answer
is yes to the greatness, is that correct? So now let me ask the
question one more time, feel the resonance in the room, just like we
do in our ohm-ing how many people want greatness in their life, say
yes! This is masterminding and I am going to get two or more people
gathered around what I mean. See we just do a big giant yes for our
own greatness and do you feel it? So you can check all of these
qualities are you bringing them to your step one? Then step two is
identification and unification. Identification just means I just
named what God is, I just named all the qualities of God or as many
as I could and it didn’t limit God, but at least I invoked the
qualities of god. God is joy God is peace, God is that excitement
about every little thing, God is that force, God is that garden, God
is that lily, behold the lilies in the field they toil not and
Solomon in all his glory is not as one of those. But it is
everywhere and I begin to bring the qualities to my recognition so
everything that I’ve just recognized step two to greatness is to
identify you as that. Because Solomon in all his glory doesn’t toil
to be that beautiful and God and all his glory is right there
waiting for me to receive it, waiting for me to claim it and I am
the beauty of the lily, I am that, I am that love, I am that
puppy-ness, I am that joy it lives within me but I may not be all of
it but I am it. It is all there is and since I am some part of it,
you see how identification is to identify yourself with everything
that you just named. To identify with what you called one and if
there is only one how many others can there be, there can be no
others, one is one. You cannot have one plus something else, it is
just one. So when I say I AM it is a true statement. I am and the
only thing there is is that one and I am that so we identify that
and often times some of you use the word unification. I love
identification better for me personally because I understand that
all things are already unified. And the only separation can be in
consciousness so let me identify myself in consciousness with that
one. If you like to unify have a good time unifying because it is
the same idea. So you see I am going to step into my own greatness,
my own dreams and the third step is realization Now this one that is
the art and the science because only you will know when the victory
is complete.
I will tell a story tell God what you want in prayer, tell God what
you want in principal today God show me the face of love, today God
show me beauty, today God show me what it is to be wealthy, today
god show me what it is to be in joy, today God show me what it is to
be sexy and invite God to give you not the details of a new car but
God give me good transportation.
Al Sid is the great hairdresser of the stars and his shop is on
Hollywood Way and Al Sid grooms me so the other day I am in his
chair and you know the statement the victory is complete meaning
somewhere in mind whatever it is that we are seeking, whatever it is
that were knowing and I am looking at Dee and Dee knows herself as
the creative and talented and powerful actress who can take herself
to the edge of creativity therefore she is claiming herself as a new
and higher level of movie star than she has ever been before. So all
of the ideas and we clarify that is what step three is, we clarify
whatever I mean by greatness, whatever it is I mean by greatness So
William F Buckley Toni passed away see Toni is my representative red
state guy and Toni knows there is a message like William F Buckley
was identified with that message of the conservative movement and
Buckley just passed away and there is an opening so may Toni wants
to be a deeper higher more powerful voice of principals that he is
impassioned about and so he gets clear about what that dream is and
that is what that clarification is. And then you take that same
clarification and you take it against these words, can you dream
that in truth to the integrity of yourself. Can you dream that in
trust to the universe wants the ideas that bring more life to come
forth? Can you dream that with passion, can you take the steps to
make sure your doing what’s complete around your own dream whatever
you clarify. Do you see how you take the four steps to greatness and
test them in the field of joyous creation and how to work them? So
steps three is clarifying and realize whatever you want and you stay
there until you have it.
So I am in al Sid’s chair and over the years I use to be a redhead
and I was blond as a baby then I got this pinkish quality and then I
went sort of reddish blonde and so I am curious to actually see what
color my hair is and I am looking on the drape he has on me and I
said boy look at that and he says it is a little darker in the back
and I said but that is a lot of gray and the gray is in the back and
it is contrasted against the dark and I said isn’t that interesting
because I said my father has a natural head of gray hair and Al
looked at me and said the victory is complete. But in prayer that is
what we mean when the thing is going to happen regardless of the
time or the process when you really know the thing is so right,
that’s what were realizing. We stay in our own consciousness and our
own mentality until the thing is so. And when we know it’s so we
move to step four.
Whatever it is that we are clarifying, when we have faith that we
really clarify what we are talking about, what does my idea of
greatness look like? What is my idea of success? What is my idea of
living in puppy freedom like? And you decide that and you get clear
around that and that is step three and then the fourth step is to
release it. Because it is not you, not yourself with your struggle
and your luggage and all that stuff in the path that is going to
create it, its you as your divine self, the I AM that is the truth
of who you are that’s going to create it so you don’t even need to
mess with it. You just get clear about it and you release it and you
let it go. Now just like when we write a business letter and what do
we write on the bottom of the letter, thank you in advance? If the
victory is complete if the thing that you are talking about, the
thing that you just clarified is really there wouldn’t it make sense
to give thanks for it? And the last thing is thanksgiving and
release. And I like to release and give thanks. And around here we
give it release and we end with praise and thanksgiving and
understanding we are not thanking the power outside of ourselves we
are thanking the I AM that I AM for clarifying and bringing forth
what I now mean. I am that power, I am that light to the degree that
I can embrace God; I am god embracing God at the level that I’m
doing it. Are there more levels that I can embrace God, yes
absolutely, infinite levels but I am it to the degree that I am
embracing it now. So we simple give thanks to the consciousness of
the I AM that I AM that is the I AM is God. I am is bigger than any
concept of God that’s ever been and when the ancient Moses asked who
said it he said tell them I am that I am. THe one that everybody
contacts within themselves. I am that presence of light within ,
tell them I am that authority that sent you and I am the one giving
praise and thanksgiving and release to the I AM that I AM for doing
the thing that I need done. So the only one of these that needs any
explanation in terms of how to check it up above is sleep state soul
love. So let me remind you again how wonderful and how easy sleep
state soul love is and many of us did it as children and we forgot
to keep doing it.
Do you remember how as a child you were taught to bless your family,
friends, your dog with your morning or evening prayers and now send
your blessings and you said well god bless mommy, and God bless
daddy and god bless whoever the child saw who needed their blessing
at the moment . In fresh creation that is actually what you do but
you do it at a higher level, in other words you now know what you
are doing which is somewhere in my life I either have a love that is
blossoming and unfolding and I want to give that more power or
somewhere in my life I have an appearance of love being stuck. So we
say wherever the appearance of love being stuck is send love to that
person before you go to bed. Instruct your soul to communicate
unconditional love to that person before you go to bed. So my
parents are no longer here but we can still instruct our soul to
send unconditional love to them. There are business people that I am
dealing with that do not have the ears to hear me that I think there
system is insane. So I don’t fight them I simple invite the highest
aspect of myself to send them unconditional love. You can do that
work as Dr. Tom Kasta, said you are going to sleep but God is going
to be up anyway So we simple use it and you see how we use the four
steps and you test it against the new qualities in joyous creation
and begin to watch your greatness unfold in your life. What I know
is the truth about you is you are already that greatness and I also
know and I have compassion for the suffering we create on the way to
revealing who and what we really are. But I say let us not put our
attention on the suffering, lets not put our attention on the past
lets put our attention on joyous creation and begin to create the
great that is already the truth about who and what we are.
Since that greatness is already established and since I get to hang
out with you this morning there is nothing else that we need to do.
The victory is already compete So I want you to know it is my honor
and privilege to be with you in this consciousness of the one life
that is so great and that each of us is revealing our greatness in a
whole new joyous way beginning today and I invite you to think on
these things and together let us explore the possibilities.
