"DO YOU THINK"
Dr. Harry Morgan Moses
12-09-07
Do you think and you might think that is an unusual question because
most people think that they are thinking. Most people think that
they are actually having a new day and the reality is the human
brain that it has as Freud use to say a neurotic tendency to repeat
itself with a monotonous regularity. So what we find is that our
spiritual practice is about clarifying taking ourselves out of the
“glob” the glob of race mind terrible conditioning thinking and
allowing ourselves to become self reliant meaning and Ralph Waldo
Emerson the great mystic from the eighteen hundreds a powerful
writer and poet meaning that his essays had poetry in them, but
there is some poetry in there. Ralph Waldo Emerson said self
reliance is reliance on God. When I rely on my high self to bring
forth the answers, when I really rely on my high self and in order
to do that I have to separate myself from the glob of the race mind
meaning if you do not think independently, if you do not take time
to clarify your thought and to move into a different mode of thought
then that neurotic repeating it thought pattern, then that thought
pattern will just enter into your life because it is what you are
participating in. I am in the flow of everybody else’s stuff so I am
experiencing the same stuff as everybody else. So we say why do I
enter into spiritual practice because I am the way the life and the
truth. Oh what I am, the gift already given is the way the life and
the truth, the gift of life that I already am and here now we are
going to rely on the wisdom of Dr. Holmes and it is very interesting
the way of the way showers is whether its a Ralph Waldo Emerson or
Walt Whitman or Jesus or Buddha or go back in time and it doesn’t
matter where you pick up the wisdom what you find is the wisdom of
the enlightened ones is the same wisdom through out time. It is not
effected by time an enlightened wisdom belongs everywhere in
anytime. And so what we find when we pay more attention to Dr.
Holmes who was more contemporary for us than a Jesus or a Buddha or
a Meister Eckhart but none the less if you have ever read the book
the Science of Mind written by Ernest Holmes you notice it is not
actually English. It does not read like a novel the words are in
English but you have to take those ideas off the page and let them
jump into your heart for them to have any kind of meaning, other
wise its like reading Thomas Thoreau its seems like one big run on
sentence. If you haven’t experienced Thomas Thoreau he wrote the
Edinburgh lectures and wrote back in the 1920’s probably the
definitive mental argument for the power of mental science, the
power of the Science of Mind. Remember that new thought is the only
term that’s in the dictionary. You will not find the term science of
mind in the dictionary, you will not find Unity in the dictionary,
you will not find religious science in the dictionary, you will find
new thought in the dictionary and it says under new thought it says
also known as mental science or practical Christianity.
If you walk into the ministers office in which we keep an open door
policy around here on purpose the doors are always open which means
you are always welcome to walk in there. The only time we close the
door is when we have a private session otherwise the door is open
and you are always welcome because that is the way that we want the
ministry to be. Not just the ministers office, the ministry to be
open and in other words you are living in the now and when you walk
into the office you have now energy we may be talking about
yesterday’s energy when you walked in, your presence may be the
thing that takes us into the new thought. You could sleep in this
morning and not come out to Burbank but you might miss something and
you might be the one that has the new thought that could change the
whole face of the world, but if you stay in bed or asleep you won’t
notice. You see being awake is not just whether you’re vertical or
not.
So let me share a couple of thoughts from the good Doctor Holmes.
Instinctively man knows that he lives in a spiritual universe,
instinctively we feel that we live in a spiritual universe.
Intuitively the intuition is the voice of God in the human being, in
the self that direct revelation of the self. Intuitively he reaches
out to greater good, a higher nobility he believes in a divine
beneficence the outpouring givingness of spirit, intuitively we
believe in that. So he goes on another thought all together
spiritual power consists in loosing this thing which Browning the
poet Browning called the imprisoned splendor. God has not made some
men divine but God has made all men divine by the very reason of the
fact that the divine spirit is incarnated in all. So we come to this
time of year and I found myself in conversation and I was saying
Easter to me is the most spiritual time and that comes out of our
history and I understand that we drag our history into our present
which affects our future. But you can drag from your history the
things that you like, did you ever think about that? You can drag
the things that you like and leave all the rest behind. Take the
things that you like from your history into your now, take the
qualities of your life from your childhood that you love, take those
in and leave everything else behind, take the best and leave the
rest and use that to help frame your life. So the reason that I like
Easter is because Easter to me is about the walk in the garden. To
me the most important day for me is Good Friday but it is not really
Good Friday, the most important day of Easter is Monday, Thursday
Monday Thursday was the day the master teacher went to the garden
and the three disciples fell asleep they could not handle the
energy. The disciples representing the qualities of God outside of
himself and he the master had to find those qualities inside him
because everything outside him went to sleep. And in that moment he
said no, no, not my will but thy will. Now lets look at that from a
higher idea, not thy will but my will what if it was this, the
ability that each of us has to merge our personal service to life,
in other words your own dreams, what would you like from life, what
would be your idea of the wealthiest, happiest, holiest life you
could have. What if you took that my personal self’s desire for the
biggest idea of my own life and merged that with the biggest idea of
oh life with God, service to life and the highest good for all
concerned. What if I took my personal desire and merged it with the
highest good for all of life not only in this dimension but in every
dimension. That the highest good that I would choose is for my
ancestors that the highest good that I would choose is for my
generations that are yet to follow behind me. That the highest good
I would choose is for all humanity but for all dimensions of life,
the angles the archangels the mystics where ever God expands the
soul into in its knowness of the glory of life What if I made my
life about that commingling do you think that would be a good idea?
So we begin to take a look and see well if I begin to open up to a
whole new possibility something I can do in the season, something I
can do in the season can become in souled by me, can become known in
my being at the very core of my being and when it is known at the
very core of my being others know that about me.
I will give you an example in the simple world. I do not use the
word best friend because I have best friends but there are a few of
those souls and Ralph Waldo Emerson said few are the souls who can
count on one hand the people they could call friend, that level of
connection. So one of my good friends I met for coffee and I was out
shopping and I was going to the commons and he said to me oh good
luck on the parking! Then his next line was oh no I forgot I was
talking to you. Meaning that when you in soul something when it
becomes part of the nature of your being people know that about you,
they know that about you and it begins to shine from who and what
you are. So today we are taking a look at do you think, do you
really think, do you think a new thought? Do you have room in your
consciousness to separate yourself from the masses? I don’t know
about you I watch the evening news and not every day but I do watch
the news to get caught up on it and I read a headline from either
the New York Times or USA Today just so I am current on what is
going on. But if you look at the news take a look at who sponsors
the evening news and the pharmaceutical companies for the large part
sponsor the news so their sponsoring ideas that tell you your less
than whole and things are looking bad everyday and you don’t think
that if you don’t have a new thought, you don’t think your affected
by that? Raymond Charles Barker the great spiritual teacher out of
New York he use to like reading the New York Times and he read it
every Sunday he said he spent an hour reading the paper and when he
put it down I turned to my partner and said none of it is true
right? That every time that he would read it and yes he had the
information and put it down and says none of it is true. What if we
begin to see the world from the consciousness of the way that God
has actually created the world that which Dr. Holmes says
intuitively and instinctively we feel? Intuitively we move toward it
and instinctively we feel it. But if you follow the old thoughts
that will get buried way deep and its only if you follow new
thoughts, if you look for the newest and highest possibility of what
is the truth of my divine nature only if I decide to live there in
and amongst the face of it. So just as our friend Bill was looking
for the bus saying I have to get there somehow and I will use every
trick I know to get there on time including something I haven’t done
for years and when he finally puts it out there who picks him up but
somebody coming to the church right? Because something within us
knows when we pursue the highest good and don’t look at conditions
and pursue the highest good and stay there and sometimes through the
mist of it all.
I will tell you a story about my mother. When she passed the last
day somehow out of the semi coma without doing anything in the
physical world she called every body there. She got all of her seven
boys and all of the grand children and we all ended up there with no
physical phone calls or anything, she called everybody there and I
noticed everyone was there in the evening and I said lets form a
prayer and do a prayer circle and as I started to pray in the normal
way, in my normal way which you know is a little lengthy, in the
middle of I know there is one power, and that power is perfect and
that power is the perfect life of God and that power is my life
right now this primal scream came out of my being. It was both
filled with grief and filled with the understanding that words could
not get to where I was trying to get to in my soul. And I felt that
scream and here I am an ordained minister praying among all of the
family and I felt that scream come out but I also felt what was
behind it and I never needed to apologize for it and nobody ever
said anything to me about it because it was a scream of the deepest
truth beyond all words let this thing that is so great come in. And
it does come in if we will step beside it but what gets in our way
is claiming the new. What gets in our way is we are so believing in
the old that were afraid to claim the new and so for a moment I want
to review for you some ideas and ask you the question do you think
it’s a good idea? Because it is only as you think it, its only as it
begins to move through your consciousness that we are one with the
one, that I am that light, that I am that truth, its only as I begin
to step into a deeper reality, stepping beyond the idea’s of
blasphemy because isn’t it blasphemy to call everything in the New
York Times untruth? Well on one level yes and on another level no.
Is it blasphemy to call everything that the people who are trying to
create the dependency on something outside of themselves are
sponsoring to call something in there a little acute? It is
blasphemy to name that a little off or at least to look with the
eyes to realize oh that could be a little off. Since they are
wanting me to believe in there myths of the trouble and the fears
and the doubts and the end of humanity and the end of the world,
whatever they project into all of that stuff. Who is the good guy
and who is the bad guy and is the world really about discovering who
is good or who is bad or is it about just being something else?
Isn’t it about being something else so you and I come to our edge
and were asked now to allow this birth to be placed within side of
us, allow this birth not to be about religiosity that I have shared
with you before but rather to be about a revealing of a truth? Yes
we can call the principal many different names, we could call the
principal
Christ, we could call the principal Buddha, we could call it Atman,
we could call it Nashama, we could call it high self, we could call
it soul, we could call it by many names but the reality is that the
I AM as it actually is birthed itself into creation in its entirety
and says here it is for you to claim. And the question is are you
claiming the New York Times version of reality or are you claiming
reality as it actually is. One is self evident that you don’t think,
you take somebody else’s thought and the other requires that you do
think and that you think from the point of truth of yourself. What
it is that I believe that will release to me as Henry David Thoreau
said a new order of being. Such that the laws of the universe work
for you in a greater license than they have ever worked before
because you are operating them on a higher level, not because you
are more special than somebody else but you have done it the old
fashion way you went and you thought anew. You created the new
thoughts and new thoughts create new conditions and how do you get
new thoughts to become the dominate thought; the answer is by
repetition, by repetition.
I have been meditating now and I was initiated into TM in 1972 and I
changed my mantra around 1982 from a Hindu word to the statement I
AM. So for more than twenty five years I have been meditating I AM
meaning I put the mantra between my eyebrows and I repeat it I AM, I
AM and I repeated it until I drop down into the space that I know as
the field of one. So how many hundreds of thousands or millions of
times given sixty thousand thought a day have I repeated the phrase
I AM so that I begin to get the idea of what is said in the
scriptures? I AM in Genesis 17:1 and that would be the Old Testament
I AM the almighty God walk before me and be thou perfect I am the
almighty God walk before me as me and be thou perfect, I AM. Ernest
Holmes says religion is not God religion is man’s understanding of
God So we could then say if religion is not God then no religion is
really God because all religion is someone’s understanding of God,
is it not? So no religion is really God and that’s why it says and
that’s why we can find the correlation throughout time but it says
before Abraham was, before there was anything calling everything one
God, I AM before Abraham was I AM. The Psalms again the Old
Testament. I have said ye are Gods and all of yea are children of
the most high. That you were born in the image and this likeness of
this one, you are born here and so here is how it comes to me. In
Telluride Colorado where I will be skiing in a couple of weeks there
is a run and its a cat track and it is a service run to the mountain
things but it gets snow on it so you can ski down it and it is
pretty steep so unless you can turn, what we call in skiing s turns
unless you are confident in doing “s” turns you cannot go down that
road because it is too narrow and there is no place to go except
over the side of the road. So I have over the years have loved this
trail because it reminds me of trees and forest and the snow is
falling and it reminds me of over the river and through the woods to
grandmother’s house we go. It always has that sort of cheery feel to
me when I ski it and the way that I ski the s turns is I have been
practicing for a number of years, “God is I am, God is I AM and it
is really very beautiful and it is this experience that I have in
myself and you come down to the bottom of the run and they say how
was the run and I don’t think many other people are saying God is ,
I am but that is what I’m doing and I am skiing as a meditation and
I having a wonderful time and this week it comes to me and I am in
meditation and it says I see myself on that hill and then myself
says to myself I AM, God is meaning I skied it God is I AM and all
of a sudden my meditation say no I AM God is, I AM God is.
Now think about it isn’t it true that the only ones that can come up
with an understanding of God, so put this together religion is man’s
understanding of God so the only one who can come up with an
understanding of God meaning any idea of religion or God is I AM, do
you see it? Before Abraham was I AM, before any God is I AM, I AM
God is, I AM God is and from my I AM I AM building a higher and
higher concept of God, do you see that? See if you had a God before
that could only answer your prayers when you got down on your knees
well then you had to have sore knees in order to pray. If you have
an understanding of God that says you have to have an Umika on in
order to access God then you have to have an Umika in order to
access God. If you had an understanding of God that says you have to
have prayer wheels in order to access God then you got to have
prayer wheels to access God. But all of that is coming from your
understanding of God. My I AM is creating the understanding of God
and so here we get to do the think part.
Were looking at the idea that the I AM has pushed itself into
humanity far enough now and has made itself available, has offered
itself by means of humanity choosing it is now pushing itself
forward into a new way of expression, into a way where we can
celebrate the seasons. People say well that church is vague its
celebrating Hanukah Christmas, Quinisha, Winter Solstice it doesn’t
even know what it is celebrating But what we are celebrating is
everything on purpose and that is all of it. Not only do we know we
are quite clear and we are celebrating all of it and so we step into
a new possibility of what it is to live from a God big enough to
include everybody’s God. What it is to live from a love big enough
to include everybody’s love. What it is to live from a consciousness
big enough where a new and higher order of laws are revealing
themselves to you and through you because you have in souled the I
AM presence and they know about you, the miracles that you bring
forward in life? They know who you are because what you are speaks
so loudly they cannot hear what you are saying, they begin to see
and sense and feel as your own en-soulment because I begin to mantra
by means of repetition the mind acquires habits by repetition of
thought why should I do spiritual practice, why should I enter into
I AM prayers, why should I be so affirmative, why should I look for
the highest good in every soul I meet and look for them to send it
back to me, that’s the great thing about what we are doing here. Do
you think that its a good idea that you should look at the world as
God. Do you think it’s a good idea that the world should look back
at you as God, have you noticed that at the 7-11 they are not doing
that!
We do that here so why is this spiritual community important because
when I am looking at you, I know you are looking at me and seeing
who and what I really am. Sometimes even when I can’t see it oh, all
of sudden we see stepping into a new way of being and here comes the
questions for you.
Do you think that it’s a good idea that you should love yourself? Do
you think that it’s a good idea to listen to your own intuition? Do
you think it’s a good idea that you should trust your own intuition?
Do you think it’s a good idea that you should really know yourself,
your consciousness as abundance that wherever you go, whatever you
need is supplied unto you, do you think, do you see it? Do you think
it’s a good idea that you should take responsibility for your
creation? Do you think it’s a good idea that you should let anything
that you created for the good, anything that you created that is
constructive, do you think that it is a good idea that it should
work for you? Do you think it’s a good idea to let everybody else’s’
good constructive work do good for them? Do you think it’s a good
idea that you should choose your life? Do you think that it’s a good
idea that when you look at your life you can say I did something’s
good, something’s bad but one thing for sure I am really glad to be
me?
Do you think it’s a good idea that you should honor the life of
everybody? Do you think it’s a good idea that when somebody’s in
pain you should extend yourself in compassion for them? Do you think
it’s a good idea to discover that you have a limitless well spring
of compassion in your being? Do you think you should extend
compassion for all the things you have yet to do with your life? So
you see what I am sharing with you are things we understand are the
choices, the ways of being in order to usher in a new era that says
I AM and I am creating what it is I believe about God. There is no
power outside of me that can create what it is that I believe about
God. I AM God is and God will become whatever I allow the God to
become. And if I believe that there is a presence that will guide me
by means of my choosing it, by means of my choosing it, go into the
garden and saying all this so long as it’s for the greater good for
all of us. Yes I want my good and I want my cup to runneth over but
I want my cup to runneth over so I can do a lot of good with
everything that runs over. Do you think that’s a good idea for
yourself?
There is a card in your program and I want to say it together and
put some attention on the word constructive. Literally the word con
in front of means with. With structure meaning the universe is with
and for itself. It’s for all things that bring together structure
not things that destroy structure, do you see it? So what we see is
the I AM as I partner with the infinite the I AM that I AM is
supporting every constructive thing that I desire. Do you want it to
keep supporting destructive things? No thank God it works with you,
I am the way the life and the truth and now say this statement
together.
I AM the fulfilled activity and sustaining power of every
constructive thing I desire, do you think that’s a good idea?
Do you think bringing your thoughts to the world might be a good
idea? Do you think that maybe you are already the energy of the new
era and that you could start living from that place? Because it may
take the world awhile to wake up to the new world but I say we can
step into it now. Will we need to love each other and support each
other oh yes because there is a big glob of race thought fast
asleep? But I will ask you this question, do you think it’s a good
idea that you should support me in being awake. Do you think it’s a
good idea that I should support you in being awake? Do you think
it’s a good idea that any where you can get support at being awake
you should receive it? Do you think it’s a good idea to support the
self in being awake, yes, do you see it?
So the question we should ask today do you think what you think is
important. I think what you think is the most important thing going
down on the planet today and I would invite you to think on these
things and together let us explore the possibilities
